Group Swim Lesson Instructor

The Foundation YMCA is seeking enthusiastic and qualified Swim Lesson Instructors to join our aquatics team. As a Swim Lesson Instructor, you will play a vital role in teaching participants of all ages and skill levels the fundamentals of swimming and water safety. This position requires a passion for working with children, strong communication skills, and the ability to create a safe and supportive learning environment in and around the water.

This is a part-time, hourly position with flexible scheduling options available; Expected hours: 4 – 10 per week in the evenings Monday-Friday and weekends as needed

• Conduct swim lessons in accordance with YMCA and American Red Cross guidelines
• Provide individual and group swim instruction to participants of varying ages and abilities
• Manage a group of up to 4 children to stay on task and engaged during lessons
• Ensure the safety of all participants by enforcing pool rules and maintaining vigilant supervision at all times
• Evaluate participants’ progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed to promote skill development
• Communicate effectively with participants and their guardians regarding lesson progress, skills achieved, and areas for improvement
• Maintain accurate records of participant attendance, skill achievements, and any incidents that may occur
• Assist with the set-up and clean-up of swim lesson equipment and ensure proper storage
• Attend all scheduled staff meetings, training sessions, and in-service workshops as required

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to lift and carry swim lesson equipment (up to 25 pounds)
  
• Ability to stand for extended periods and move around the pool deck and in the water
  
• Must be able to demonstrate swimming strokes and water safety skills

• Minimum age of 16 years old
• Previous experience working with children required
• Ability to demonstrate and teach proper swim techniques in a patient and encouraging manner
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
